Power through the history

In the frame of the Hungarian administrative division Murska Sobota fell under Zelezna zupanija and was the seat of the Sobota court circuit since 1850. After declaration of the Hungarian Soviet Republic in 1919 the town was the seat of the dirctorated for the Vendska krajina, in May of the same year the six-day republic Murska republica was declared here. In time of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, a civil commissioner for Prekmurje was appointed in the town and later in the town and later on the district governor until 1941, when, in the time of occupation Hungarians introducet the old administrative division again. On April 3rd, Murska Sobota was liberated by the soldiers of the Soviet Red Army together with a part of the Prekmurje partisan troop. The new authority was restored bye the members of the delegation of the Slovene National Liberation Council, who came to the Prekmurje on April 8th, 1945. After the Second World War Murska Sobota was the seat of the district, and since 1964 it has been the seat of community in the today's extent.
